A little about Thompson Gale Photography and Lee Thompson-Gale

Newcastle Photography by Thompson Gale – a little background

Lee Thompson-Gale MCIJ – Photographer/Director/Producer/Artist

Lee Thompson-Gale started out his photography career as a photographer’s assistant at a London studios 20 years ago. There was a freedom then that doesn’t exist anymore in the creative world, and Lee had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, some extremely talented people in photography, film, fashion and art.

Lee moved from being a photographer’s assistant after a few years to take on commissions of his own including work in every genre of photography you can think of such as film, music, art, advertising and glamour (which had its moments!). Lee also worked in sport, documentary and pop video and films working on lights, sound and assistant directing as well as the stills photography for some very high-profile clients.

Tasco – the business that brought Lee Thompson Gale & Joe Browne together

Lee  invented the worlds first robotic camera system when he took time to work in partnership with the legendary rock n roll lighting and sound guru Joe Browne (see the image of their own business brochure on the left). Joe Browne  gave Roger Daltrey of the Who their first tour bus and set up the first tailored sound system with Baz Marshall of Marshall Amplifiers.

After setting the world on fire – and following a series of personal tragedies – Lee decided to come home to Tyneside and get back to working in a familiar landscape in a much more personal and involved way, but now he’s back in London with his mojo back in full working order.

Lee tries to keep his work as laid back as possible so as not to hinder creativity, favouring a more open minded attitude which always guarantees a better result for both himself and of the client. He may work in a more personal way these days, but the fire and passion remain and new challenges constantly inspire him with new ideas and techniques. Collaborations with other creative people gives him access to a network which leaves him in the enviable position to take on any project he finds challenging and interesting ,working with close friends such as the award winning director/producer Alex Chandon.
